The Highest Place

Next Sunday falls as part of a week off for us, so we won't be at Kemsing or Woodlands churches.

The week after is 30th October. For a couple of years now, we've taken the opportunity that comes around four times a year (the fifth Sunday of the month) to have one joint service for both churches. In the main they've been happy celebrations, and the aim is always to worship the one Lord Jesus Christ, and to remind ourselves that the gospel which unites us is far stronger than any cultural, geographical, or ecclesiastical-taste differences we might have.

To help us with this, we've made Philippians the book of the Bible we read together during those services. Lots of our liturgy uses texts taken from that New Testament letter, and we've been working our way slowly through for the preaching.

This month, we reach Philippians 2:1-11. It's not quite the heart of the book - that, I believe, is 1:27. But it certainly is one of the major highpoints of the book (pun intended). I've enjoyed this part of the Bible a lot, but I've never really got down to studying it in any great detail. Because I'm off the week after this, I get to start that today, and I can't wait.

And if you want to enjoy the fruits of that study, and join us to bow the knee to the Lord Jesus who more than deserves it, and to have your heart stirred by who he is and what he's done {momentary pause to write down ideas for songs we might sing}, it's:

KEMSING CHURCH, 10am, SUNDAY 30TH OCTOBER 2011. [That's 10am GMT by the way]

Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
