I’ve now moved the “sermons” section of my old website onto this new site.
I’ve taken advantage of doing this to get a number of things done:
- Removed a sermon that I totally disagree with. I wouldn’t tackle Luke 17:20-37 the same way now. (See below)
- Put a few more recent sermons up
- Replaced the sermon on the tail end of 1 Cor 14 with the extended edition that I was to give at a later evening service.
In particular, I’ve posted a recent series of 3 sermons on Luke 20. They are revealing in a couple of ways
- They are a recent example of preaching I have done at St James. You’d learn a bit about some of the issues we are facing as a church by reading those sermons. Might be handy if you were coming to preach at St James (for example!).
- They reveal something about me too, namely the fact that I have been becoming increasingly persuaded by some forms of (=moderate, or biblical) preterism. You can see my attempts to start to reflect that in sermons I preach when the text in question requires it.
Standard disclaimer (repeated at the top of the sermons page) applies: These are not here because I view them as model sermons, but because sharing what I’ve worked on may help somebody else. Just in case it does…
